FAQs

What is the climate of Haiti?
The climate in Haiti ranges from very tropical to desert. Temperatures vary from the 70s to the 100s. Nighttime in the mountain regions can be very cold.

The children eat beans and rice, bread, fruit, spaghetti with fish, corn meal and often goat.

Do the children receive a Christian education?
Every child placed in our sponsorship program receives a Christian education, taught by Christian teachers.

Describe the clothing worn by the children.
Since the climate in Haiti is very hot, lightweight clothing is worn. The children wear their Love A Child uniform to school. From time to time, various churches and prayer groups help make these uniforms.

What sort of games do the children play?
Their favorite sport is the national sport: soccer. Boys also love marbles. The girls enjoy jump-rope and various other outdoor games that children in Haiti play.

May I visit my child?
Yes. Sponsors may visit their child, provided they are accompanied by a mission team.

How long is my sponsorship commitment?
Most sponsors commit to helping their child for one year. In some instances, if the child moves to another village, they may sponsor another child.

May I send a package to my child?
Yes. Sponsors may send one small package per year, provided they are within our package guidelines.  The Send A Child A Gift page has examples of gift packages for  boys or girls.

Child with gift

Your monthly support is combined with the gifts of other sponsors to provide for all of the needs of our sponsored children.  Should your child leave our Love A Child Sponsorship program due to devastation caused by a natural disaster, or any other type of economic, social or cultural reason, your gift will continue to be combined with other Love A Child sponsor gifts to help care for disadvantaged children within our program.  Information will be sent introducing your new sponsored child.
