Medical Teams are Huge Blessings…

A Haitian Creole Proverb…
“Maladi vini sou ou a-cheval, li soti ou a-pye/bourik…”

“Sickness comes to you by horseback; it leaves us by foot…”
Sickness comes quickly and leaves slowly…

Most people in Haiti cannot afford a doctor, a dentist or eye care…and 90% of the women are never able to afford “women’s healthcare.”  The majority of Haiti’s poor have to save “every penny” for food.

Recently, we were blessed to have a wonderful dental team, eye care team and “women’s health team.” Tim Randolph also conducted training for our Love A Child staff at the Jesus Healing Center.  He brings them up another level each time he comes to teach.
(Tim also developed a new test for Sickle Cell and provides this free of cost.)

Let’s go to the “dental team…”  Our dental clinic is now inside this shipping container, which was recently painted and renovated.  This was donated by our partner, Bishop Frank Allen of Hope Charitable Services, and we thank Pastor Roy Smith and Melissa Shaffer for helping to make all of this happen.

Inside, we see John and Julie Sunnucks with a patient, and “Nixon,” one of
our interpreters, is waiting to translate…

They gave many patients relief from pain…

Outside in the hall, more patients are waiting to have a tooth
pulled or a couple of teeth pulled!

j_img4

Dentist John Sunnucks is having a hard time getting this tooth out…
(Poor John, some of his important dental tools never arrived in Haiti, but he did his best.)

j_img5

Fabienne, one of the children from our Love A Child Orphanage,
always helps John and Julie when they conduct a dental clinic.
(Guess what she wants to be when she grows up!)

This is a Haitian mother with her daughter “Deja.”
She had two sets of teeth and had to have a set pulled!

j_img7

Pastor Jerry helps to clean the dental tools and anything else that is needed during the clinic.
This is one of our teenagers, Stephanie.  She wants to be a nurse,
but she is happy to help in the dental clinic!!

The sun is going down and still, patients are waiting…each day,
all of the clinics were packed to capacity.

Eye Care Clinic

The eye care clinic (eye exam and glasses) was conducted by Christina,
Tim Randolph’s daughter, Maddie Thompson, high school student,
and James Maxson, pre-med student.

j_img11

They tested and provided glasses for approximately 200 patients that week…

j_img12

This is Tim Randolph, Founder of Randolph World Ministries, and his team.
They were a huge blessing.
(From left to right:  Christina, Liz, Tim, Maddie, James
and Bobby on the back row.)

j_img13

They worked hard all week, conducting tests and exams for women.
These tests will help diagnose cervical cancer.

j_img14

Danny jumped in and helped in many areas.

j_img15

Inside the eye care clinic, the first step is getting the information and the exam…

Christina helps a patient choose some glasses.  One lady is trying on glasses….
imagine being able to see “well” for the first time in your life!

j_img16

One elderly lady got so excited with her glasses that she got up and
started running and yelling for joy!

Briana, young daughter of Carlos, our Team Host, helps to
sort the hundreds of pairs of glasses each day.

j_img17

Christina is so good with the patients and learns Creole quickly.

 j_img18

Here, we see a patient with new glasses.

j_img19

In just one week, the dental clinic saw 127 patients and pulled 130 teeth;
the eye care team saw 270 patients and gave 207 pairs of glasses and 13 referrals;
and 57 ladies received OB/GYN exams. God bless our wonderful volunteer staff!!!!

We wish to thank everyone who volunteered to come and help…
God bless you and your heart of compassion,  Sherry
