Update on the Marketplace…

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.

Or teach a man a job skill and he can care for himself and his family.

Teaching Haitians to help themselves…
Love A Child is building a huge marketplace to help Haitians create jobs.  I
t is our desire that the marketplace will create jobs by allowing the Haitians to
sell items that they have made or purchased.  All Haitians love to sell, but
there is no place in the area that provides a Marketplace large enough
to meet these needs.

This is a huge leap of faith to tackle this big project, but the Lord
has already begun to give us miracles. We want to thank Pastor Jentezen
Franklin for his commitment to sponsor this Marketplace.  This exciting
project will create jobs for the future and “food for life!”  We will always
continue to feed hungry children all over Haiti, but this Marketplace will help
us to give the families in this area a “helping hand” instead of a “hand out.”
There are so many villages in need of food and jobs.

There were “Giants” on the land!

Clearing the land was hard work.  There were many huge trees
that looked like giant “chandeliers!”  There were poisonous trees,
and then, there was the wind, the heat and the dust.

Bobby called on Roger Rinker, a former missionary in Mexico and
one of the BEST bulldozer operators that we know, to come to Haiti
and help us to clear the land.

As the land was being cleared, Haitians came from everywhere and
began gathering tree roots to be used to make charcoal.

They sell bags of charcoal to make a little money for their families.

It took tons of dirt…

After the land was cleared, truckloads of dirt were brought to the Marketplace site.

Roger and others worked to level off the Marketplace site.

Soon, the land was level and ready for the foundations of the
storage depots and front office.  These have to be built first.

Then, the Haitian work crew started laying blocks.

Remember, every time we employee one Haitian, he feeds on average about ten people.

A special thanks goes to Robert de Vries for his leadership on this project.
He oversees the Haitian work crews that are building the depots, the office
and the huge block wall that will go all the way around the Marketplace.

This project would not be possible without the dedication and brains of
Mark Ostrander and his son Jesse.  These two have come to Haiti often to help
with this project.  They are up and working before sun up and we don’t see them
until after the sun goes down.  We thank them for all they are doing to build the
Marketplace.  Mark is the Project Manager of all our large projects!

There is much that has been done and much more left to do.
We are all working together to change lives.

Here is an artist rendering of what the completed Marketplace will look like…

He that winneth souls is wise.  Proverbs 11:30.

By Faith, we want to have our Love A Child Radio Station
broadcasting into the Marketplace so that “we can win souls!”

This is a huge project and we are excited about how it will impact
the Haitians living in Miracle Village and the Fond Parisien area.  The
people will be able to buy and sell right here and make money to feed their families.

Again, we thank Pastor Jentezen Franklin and his partners
for sponsoring the Love A Child Marketplace!  Soon, the Haitians
will be working and helping themselves!

We are in need of a good “Mack Truck” that we can use at the
Marketplace site during construction.  After the Marketplace is completed,
we will be able to use it for all of our other projects.  If God is speaking
to your heart about this, please call our Love A Child
office immediately
at 239-210-6107.

God bless you,
Sherry
