The Village of La Roche

October 28-31, 2013 A Creole Proverb…

“Woch nan dlo pa konnen doule woch nan soley.”

”The rock in the water does not know the pain of the rock in the sun.”

For many years, Love A Child has been sponsoring a church and school in the village of Lastik, Haiti. Lastik school We took responsibility of this work years ago when Pastor Bernice was ready to close the school due to a lack of funds. Bobby and passing out food This would have meant that all these children in the mountains would never be able to go to school, or have one decent meal a day. Boy with food Crops do not grow well in these mountains because the soil is rocky and even the riverbed is full of millions of rocks! Rocky Riverbed A Step of Faith… We took this school project on, simply by faith. We had to build more desks and enlarge the school. There were so many children coming from the mountains that we had to add additional classrooms. Partners in the States began to sponsor these children so that we could provide the very best Christian education, routine medical care and food for them! School-children   Mobile Clinics… We conducted Mobile Clinics there and saved many lives. When the Cholera Epidemic broke out, Love A Child was ready to transport patients from Lastik all the way down the riverbed to the Cholera Center that we helped establish with our missionary friends. Cholera Clinic   Feeding Programs… We even began family feeding programs in Lastik so that parents would have food to feed all of their children even when their crops did not grow. Serving food Hurricanes and Floods… Because Lastik was in a very dangerous area, it was often hit hard with hurricanes and floods that swept through the dry and rocky riverbed. These dangerous hurricanes and heavy rains began to eat away the foundation of our church and school in Lastik. Soon, these elements would take away the whole village. Raging River Moving the Church and School… This meant that we had to move the Love A Child Church and School to another village and rebuild everything quickly, because hurricane season would be here soon. Pastor Bernice found some land not far from Lastik that was up on a hill and in an area that doesn’t flood. This is where Pastor Bernice felt that the Lord would have us move the Lastik outreach. The village is called La Roche. We paid for the land, but certainly did not have the money needed to start building.   3212-Building-foundation-in-Lastik     La Roche… We needed a miracle for La Roche. We did not have the money to build a new church and school and transfer the children and people from Lastik to La Roche. God moved on the hearts of David George and his partners, and soon the foundation was going up!!   3359-Foundation-with-rebar   As of today, here is what is happening at La Roche. We have already started a family feeding program here. Woman with food & baby   We are also feeding hundreds of hungry children in this area, and soon we will bring a Mobile Clinic to La Roche. The foundation goes up!
