Shalken has Hope

November 5-12, 2013

“Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”
Matthew 25:40

This scripture means so much to all of us here at Love A Child and we try to live it daily.  That is why we do everything possible for the least of these.  I want you to meet someone that has been receiving medical care at the Jesus Healing Center.

This is Shalken, a 10-year-old Haitian boy. He is a very sick little boy.  His family was not able to get him medical care until his parents brought him to our Jesus Healing Center.

Shalken front and backShalken has an autoimmune disorder. This causes the lumps that you can see on his body.  Sometimes, these lumps open and drain which is very painful for Shalken.  We are doing what we can to make this illness more bearable for him.

Miss Esther, Clinic Director, and Dr. Mardy, Pediatrician/Clinic Medical Director, work together to see that Shalken’s medications, diet and consultations are all handled professionally and accurately in order to give him every possibility to move toward a better life. Every month Shalken arrives at the Jesus Healing Center where he is weighed, consulted on his previous months progress, and given his medications, food and Glyconutrients. Miss Esther reviews his progress and counsels Shalken’s father with the routine for Shalken’s medications and diet.

Esther & father of ShalkenShalken has good days when he can go to school to learn and have a chance to laugh and play with the other children. He also has many bad days where he is in terrible pain and cannot laugh or play.  Even though Shalken has to miss a lot of school, he is very intelligent and he is able to keep up with his studies.  He does very well considering he is not present every day.

His father does not have a regular job and is unable to provide the necessary medical care.

Father in front of carThis is how Love A Child reaches out to serve the least of these.

Father & medsWe have the Jesus Healing Center here so Shalken and other children with illnesses do not suffer due to a lack of medical care.  Recently while Shalken was at the Jesus Healing Center for a check up, he was given supplies for the upcoming month.

As they leave the office with Shalken’s Manna Relief Glyconutrients and go get their box of Feed My Starving Children’s Manna Rice, you can see the look of HOPE on their faces just knowing that so many people care in such a big way.

Mark Crea & ShalkenThis was a very special day for Shalken and his father.  When they got to the Malnutrition Center for their Feed My Starving Children Manna Rice they had a special guest.  The President of Feed My Starving Children, Mark Crea, was at the clinic to meet them.

Mark wanted the honor of presenting this month’s box of food to the family.

Praying for ShalkenWe are able to care for the least of these because Vitamin Angels, Feed My Starving Children and Love A Child work together so that Shalken and others will have every chance to have as normal a life as possible.

Love,
Sherry
