Children and School

December 1-11, 2013

A Creole Proverb…
“Mennen koulev al lekol pa anyen, se fe-l chita-a ki red…”
“Taking a snake to school is nothing, it’s making him sit that is tough…”

10137

These children start each day with a prayer thanking the Lord for school.  It might be hard to sit the whole day, but these children are getting a Christian education and they have hope.

Life for the majority of children in Haiti is difficult.

10139Some children spend much of their day carrying water to earn a little money for the family.

10127Children start helping with the family chores at a very young age.

10131Some children wash clothes for their mothers.

10132Many children earn money by helping other families with laundry.

10129Boys must gather wood for their mothers to use for a fire or they sell it for charcoal to help provide for their families.

10138Many little girls must care for their younger siblings.

10135Haitian children are not “children” for very long.

10366They must learn at an early age to help with the chores or work to earn money for the family.  It is so sad.  Since these families are poor, most of the children will never go to school.  In order to attend schools in Haiti, the parents must pay about $100 Haitian every month.  School is not an option for poor mountain families.

All of these children have a sponsor and are able to attend one of our schools.

When you sponsor a child, you provide a hot and nourishing meal, a Christian education and routine medical care for your sponsored child.  Please consider sponsoring a child and changing a life today.

Sherry
