Update on Dieuferly and Lionel

As many of you know, Dieuferly had some “very bad” surgeries on both his club feet when he was a child. These surgeries have left both feet in excruciating pain and he is on pain pills every day.

Lionel’s father had held his hand in boiling water when he was young because he got angry at him. So, due to the burns, his fingers fused together and he has a deformed finger.

We took both children to the hospital in Carrefour. Both had exams and X-rays, and they gave us their opinion for surgery on Dieuferly’s feet.

For Lionel, and the release of his fingers, they wanted to keep him that night to do surgery the next morning at 6:30 a.m., which was yesterday. They found a room for Lionel and we left for Fond Parisien. When I got home to Love A Child, I received a call that “Lionel needed to come in for his surgery the next morning.” I told them, “Go upstairs and look in his bed. He’s there!”

Then, I received a call that they could not operate unless I came back and signed a form. I told them that I could not return because I am a long-distance away through one of the most dangerous areas in Haiti, and that they needed to e-mail the form to me.

Then, they called and said that Lionel couldn’t have the surgery because he had a cough. I told them, “You had him all day yesterday and did labs. Why didn’t you check his lungs yesterday?” That’s just Haiti! We sent someone to bring him home last evening.

Lionel needs to be treated for his chest cold and then they will reschedule his surgery. As for Dieuferly, we are going to get a “second opinion,” because he has been through so many surgeries already and is in much pain, and we want to make the best decision for him. We love all of our Love A Child kids and we want what is best for their lives. We ask that you pray the Lord will bless Lionel’s surgery and that we find the path for Dieuferly. God bless you.
