Sweet & Hardworking Mackenson

Mackenson is a sweet, quiet and hardworking little boy. I found him when we were in a Mobile Medical Clinic in the mountains. I was shocked to see this poor mountain man cradling a “toddler” in his arms who had severe malnutrition. The child’s legs and arms were “splitting” open because he had Kwashiorkor malnutrition, meaning that his body was just “water and bones!” He had never had milk or protein, and “he was seven years old… not three!” His father “loved his child!” There were tears running down the face of this poor man, as he nervously rocked the little boy back and forth… We promised him that we would do what we could do! We took Mackenson with us when we left. He was in and out of hospitals for years, but finally gained weight.

He is now 13 years old and in the 7th grade, but something strange happened to him about two years ago. While Mackenson was sitting at his desk in our school, he fell out of his chair and was acting strangely. He “had a stroke!” We were shocked! Since then, he has been on medicine and in physical therapy. Our doctor manages his medicine. He can walk but walks with a limp.

Mackenson is a hardworking little boy! He loves cleaning the orphanage, sweeping leaves, and helping to unload groceries. And oh yes, he “loves food and loves to eat!” Ha! He also takes the trash out and helps clean his room! His favorite sport is “dominos!”  He is a great student and (get this) wants to be a Spanish teacher!

Thank you, Partners, for helping sponsor the children in our Love A Child Children’s Home! They are “the future of Haiti!” Thank you, Sherry
