With all the insecurity problems here in Haiti, the problem of “food” is at the top of the list. Imagine any woman in the states, without a husband… that has children to feed. There are all kinds of food programs and government assistance. But in Haiti, there is nothing. There is no welfare system, certainly no government assistance, and no insurance plans… nothing. Each mother has to figure out “how to feed their children today,” especially when the father has died or left. When a man leaves his wife in Haiti, there is no court to make him pay “child assistance.” It is now up to the mother…
She will try her best to feed her children… but she will have to start a garden or make charcoal, or find some type of leaves, etc. to sell.
This means, that when there is no money for food… there is no money for anything else, including medicine. There is no money for anything. Without money to put their children in school, there is no education, and with no education, the cycle repeats itself.
This is why we believe in feeding the children first and providing a Christian education with a full hot meal each day… For every child that is fed, “thank you, partners!” – Bobby and Sherry
The Creole proverb says, “The child who cries inside your house and the child who cries outside your door, are the same…”
