Your Worst Enemy…

Every one of us has enemies. We may think that “we love everyone and so, that means, everyone loves us.” But, we all have enemies… But “who” is your worst enemy?

Joseph was the son of both Rachel and Jacob. Joseph had many “half-brothers” on his father’s side, but Joseph now is the favorite of his father, Israel, (formerly Jacob).

As Joseph grows up, he notices that all of his half-brothers begin to hate him. They were jealous because their father loved Joseph the most. In fact, his father made Joseph a “coat of many colors.”

In Genesis, 37:4-5 Joseph is about to learn that his greatest enemies in all the world are his own brothers! The “spirit of jealousy” is deep inside the older brothers. They cannot even stand the sight of Joseph and especially when he proudly wears his coat of many colors.

Joseph dreams a dream that is from the Lord. He should have kept the dream to himself, but he tells this dream to all his brothers. The meaning of the dream is that “someday, his brothers, his father, will bow down before him,” and their lives will actually be in his hands.

When God shows us things, we must be careful not to share this with others. The “spirit of jealousy” is our worst enemy! It can make your “friend, your enemy.”

David was a shepherd boy and could play a harp with the anointing of God. So, when King Saul could not sleep, he called for David to play his harp. All went well with the friendship until David killed Goliath, and then, killed many enemies of Israel, the Philistines. When the ladies came out to sing praises of David, the “spirit of jealousy,” entered into King Saul… “And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.” I Samuel 18:9

Saul even tried to kill David with his javelin. So, beware… jealousy is your worst enemy. Be careful what you say and to whom you say it! The only one you can really trust, is Jesus!
