Kidney “Little Thorn!”

With 85 plus kids, raising all these kids in an orphanage in Haiti has been quite a ride… But, it is so amazing to see what they want to do with their lives when they graduate.

Kidney just started his first year in college in September. Kidney and his brother struggled when their mother died and their father gave them up to relatives, but soon, their relatives could not take care of them, (this has happened to about 85% of our children).

Someone told us about the plight of Kidney and we took him in. He was not a troublemaker but was just quiet. He was so quiet that sometimes I forgot he was here! The kids gave him a nickname, Ti Pikan, (Little Thorn!). When he first arrived at our place, he was showing signs of severe malnutrition. Kidney was timid and clung to his brother.

When he got older, he helped us with our food distributions, but soon, he found his “gift.” He wanted to work at our Love A Child Radio Station. He began by opening up the station “early in the morning,” at 4:30 and was never a minute late. He took his job seriously. Then, Frank, the manager, began to show Kidney how to do other things, how to conduct interviews, and keep up with all the buttons and gadgets on that equipment!!! When he finished high school, he went right into communications! What a perfect fit for Kidney!!!

Sometimes, we try to think for “our children,” and make them do what they are not equipped to do, but when they find something they love to do, they will be very good at it!! Kidney has gained weight due to sitting all day at the radio station, so now, we have to get started on building up his muscles!!! He can do it!! Kidney can do anything he puts his mind to!! We are so proud of Kidney! We love all the kids but we really love the “no stress” ones!!!! Ha!!!
