Word from the Mission Field

“You Never Said There Would Be Giants!”

What a great story! After many years of wandering around in the desert, the Israelites finally came to the “promised land.” Not knowing what was on the other side, Moses sent a group of people, along with Caleb and Joshua, to “spy out the land.” They brought back huge clusters of grapes and fruits from the “land flowing with milk and honey.” But the majority of the people said, “There are giants in the land.”

Has God ever promised you something and then finally, after all those weeks or months or years, you find out “you’ve got giants in the land?” Giants that were so big, it made you look like a “grasshopper!” There will always be obstacles when God gets ready to bless you. You might as well call these obstacles “giants,” because they seem bigger than you…

When the Lord blessed Bobby and I with all these many acres of land here in Haiti, we thought we were in “heaven,” until the original landowner decided he wanted “everything back!” After we had cleared the land of the most hateful bushes with daggers, and bushes called “flying Satans,” and having to drill for water again and again, and fighting off the Voodoo people… we faced more “giants” than we had ever faced in all our lives! No one ever told us “there were giants in the land,” but it was full of them!!!

The good thing is that they “were not bigger than God!” We thank God for the giants because it taught us how to be “tough.” It’s just like the song by Johnny Cash, “A Boy Named Sue.” His dad named him “Sue” because he knew his son would have to grow up and get in fights and learn to be “tough!” So, always be ready for the “giants,” and know that God is bigger!!!!
