Sarah…

Sarah is the sister of Joseph. The government of Haiti gave them other names, but we didn’t like them… We call them Sarah and Joseph.

Both were brought to us because their mother had died, and their father could not take care of these young children. They both had severe malnutrition… But with good care, both survived and had no other health problems.

Sarah was a good kid until she became a teenager. She was not a troublemaker, but she was a large girl for her age and was always wearing her sister’s “too short, too tight skirts!” I warned her a couple of times… When we would take the kids to a soccer game, she would dress in her regular clothes, but when she got on our bus, she would already have changed to something else. So, I sent her to live with her father when she was in 12th grade. Over time, she changed, and we let her come back.

It was time for college… She wanted to try the course in Management but soon came back in tears. She did not like the course. I asked her what she wanted to be, and she replied, “a Hair Dresser!”

Today, she is completely changed! She is mature, sweet, practical… She is doing what “her heart wanted to do!” We always told our children to “follow their dream!”

Someday, she will have her own beauty salon… I think the name “Sarah’s Salon,” is a good name for that!

We love Sarah… Sometimes, we parents need to have “tough love!”
