A “Struggle” Turns into a Blessing

The young woman, Desilia, had led a rough life. The 26-year-old had lost three children… Her first child was a boy who died of a fever. Then, she recently lost her husband due to a pandemic fever in the Dominican Republic. She said she “didn’t even find his body to bury him.”

Desilia lives with her mother and nine other siblings in a “one-room” house that her mother rented. It was tough for her mother to pay the rent because the money coming in was not enough for the rent and food.

Desilia’s mother is a “vendor” who sells on the street and if she doesn’t sell enough, there will be no food coming in.

Desilia’s husband (who had passed away) had always mistreated her. So, when she found out she was pregnant with this child, she decided to abort her baby. Once again, as poor mothers do in Haiti, she made the “tea” that the Haitian mothers drink, to abort but, it didn’t happen. God had a better plan!

She came to our Birthing Center (late) for help; she was welcomely received! (All pregnant women who wish to have their babies here must come every month, beginning at four months.) Desilia gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, 2.8 kilos (about 6.2 pounds).

Normally, she would not have had any baby clothes at all for her baby, nor diapers, but because of our wonderful partners who make and send in “Birthing Kits,” her little baby boy was all dressed up to go home! And, the news is that she left with a Birth Certificate in her hands! This is very unusual here in Haiti because Birth Certificates are hard to get, especially due to the gangs in the streets and the distance to travel to get them! This is another blessing from Love A Child.
