Little Chwenly Carelus is a one-year-old little baby boy who lives with his mother Similia and two other children. His father abandoned his wife and children and never came back. Unemployed with three small children, and without a decent roof on their junk house, their mother didn’t know what to do. Their bed was a pile of dirty clothes on the ground. Unable to sleep, Madamn Similia would lay on the dirty clothes on the dirt floor, and look up at the stars, shining through the cracks in the ceiling, wondering how she would feed her children the next day.

Madamn Similia had to do something. She decided to go out to work as a “washwoman,” washing other people’s clothes at the river. She would leave the children in the care of her 12-year-old daughter. Food was so scarce, that nearly all the time Madamn Similia had to leave some bread and sugar for the children. This bread, dipped in sugar water, was their main diet. And, when she did not have the bread and sugar water, there was nothing to feed them. Once, she did not have anything for the baby and her other children for “four days straight!”

This led to chronic malnutrition for Chwenly. He may have looked “fat,” but Chwenly was nothing but skin, bones and water… this is Kwashiorkor malnutrition. After four days of vomiting, fever, and diarrhea, Madamn Similia was forced to take her baby to a clinic. Fortunately, she found our Jesus Healing Center.

The baby developed a fever. The vomiting and diarrhea continued and his body was swollen. Fortunately, we have a Malnutrition Clinic right next to our Jesus Healing Center. When Chwenly first came to the Center, he weighed only 9 kg, and today, thanks to special foods, a good diet and plenty of care, he weighs 10.8 kg. He is a on a healthy and balanced diet and doing very well. Chwenly no longer has vomiting or diarrhea.

Soon, he can join his mother. Now, he is a cheerful, jovial, and happy child. We will keep you updated on Chwenly, and when he is able to go home.
