Jackson is now a young teen and doing well for all he has been through. When we first found Jackson in the mountains, his uncle had brought him to us with a huge and swollen belly. He had the deadly Kwashiorkor malnutrition! He had been staying with a relative who did not feed him the right kinds of food. As a result, his feet, arms, and belly were huge and swollen with water, and he had a “moon-shaped” face. His kidneys were almost gone.
In Haiti, there is only one dialysis machine for the whole country! We had sent him to several Haitian doctors but he grew worse. The doctors here did not care about trying to help him. We had to take Jackson to the Dominican Republic. They told us that the dialysis machine the doctors here had been using was for adults and he needed a pediatric machine! Thankfully, one of our partners sponsored this machine. He has to have dialysis every night and a nurse has to be with him. He is on dialysis from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. He requires a LOT of medicine and care and is on a special diet. He has to return to the Dominican Republic tomorrow for blood tests, and his machine and nurse will be with him!
We are praying that somehow, we can get Jackson on the “humanitarian list” for a transplant. It would take a miracle, but that’s the kind of God we serve! If anyone has any connections to get him on that list, please contact our Love A Child Office at (239) 210-6107 and ask to speak to Rad. God bless you and thank you.
