It’s hard for us who don’t live in Haiti, to understand how Voodoo changes the lives of good people. My father was an alcoholic, and I remember how he could grow angry “quickly,” and take it out on my brothers or a family dog. Voodoo can drive a person crazy.

Colin’s mother had cooked a pot of rice. After all the kids had eaten, Colin reached into the pot to “scrape” the hard kernels of rice. His father grabbed his hand and pulled him over to the charcoal fire, and said, “you are a thief!” And he held Colin’s hand on the hot burning coals! When we found this out, we took Colin to a doctor and arranged to legally remove him from that father!

We took him in and soon realized that he is “over the top,” in school studies. He wants to be an engineer! He’s in the 8th grade now. Colin loves soccer. He is the goalie! He is hard-working and loves to eat!! He will have to go to the dentist in the Dominican Republic because his teeth are crooked and in bad shape. But, he’s happy and intelligent!
