Word from the Mission Field

Well did the Psalmist David say, “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” (Psalm 27:14)

It’s easy to pop up and say, “Well, let’s do something…” But when the Lord wants us to “wait on Him,” there is a reason. In 1st Samuel 13:8-14, God had given Saul, his newly appointed king, a great test… Saul was to wait until the Prophet Samuel came and he would lead them into a sacrifice unto the Lord. The enemy was about to converge on Israel, but Samuel tarried. (Just as Jesus tarried when he was supposed to go to Lazarus and pray for him.) God was “testing Saul” to see if he could “wait” on the Lord. But Saul took matters into his own hands, like we do. We get tired of “waiting” so we jump up and do it “our way.” But “our way is not His way,” and our thoughts are not “His thoughts.”

As soon as Samuel arrived (late) he heard the bleating of the sheep and he knew the sacrifice had started without him. That one stroke of disobedience caused Saul the kingdom… “But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee.” (1 Samuel 13:14)

Don’t be in a hurry. Wait on the Lord. He is never late… “He may be four days late, but He’s always on time!” Sherry
