The first time we saw Jean Edwouard, he was in the village of Old Letant! He was cooking food for a large family because his mother and father had died, and he was now a “restavek” child. In Haiti, when a child’s parents die, they go to live with a relative and become a “slave child.” We brought him home with us.

I noticed that even when he was a young boy, he liked to sew by hand! He was always fixing the boys’ pants, sewing them to make the pant legs tighter as that was the new fad!! Later, he began to sew everything!! He received two very nice sewing machines from our partners, and he has been doing alterations, sewing, and repairing many items! This is his passion! His dream is to go to the Dominican Republic next year and learn fashion design! He is a wonderful and polite young man, and everyone loves him!
