Nelson

Nelson’s story is so sad and so heart-touching. We were in the mud-hut village of Old Letant and were doing a Feeding Program with a team from Minnesota. As I walked through the village, I noticed a little boy “sitting on his knees” beside a big hog.

The sun was hot; he was naked and thirsty. The kids would walk by him, smack him on the head and say, “pa bezouin ou.” (We don’t need you, or we don’t want you!)

It made me “furiously angry” and into tears! I knew the mother and father of the child were deeply into Voodoo. They were hoping he would die!

I went over, picked him up, and “put his head on my shoulder and wrapped his arms around my neck!” He had found “love…”

We got permission from his parents to take him, and his whole life changed. He began to stand, walk and talk, run… go to school, and play soccer!!

Today, Nelson is 13, in 7th grade, and wants to be a mechanic! Perhaps “you” were the one who helped send food to this village. Perhaps “you” were the one who fed him and changed his life!

Thank you for making a difference!!
