What You Don’t Know, is Greater Than You!

The Haitians live off their proverbs, which have been handed down from generation to generation. One proverb says, “What you don’t know, is greater than you!” That is so true…

I just went to our kitchen to get something to drink and to check on our cook Nini. She has been with us since the first day we moved to Haiti… and also Gilbert, the man in the picture. When I arrived at the kitchen I did not see Nini, but I did see this huge delicious pot of vegetables cooking! I thought we were having “greens!” But Gilbert said, “This is not to eat! We are going to bathe Madamn Nini with it!”

This morning, our Haitian cook Nini nearly passed out. She could not breathe well, so we took her to our clinic. It was her “breathing problems” again! When she came home to rest, Gilbert and some of the other ladies began to boil this “Haitian medicine!”

Many times in the past when Bobby had kidney pains, the Haitians would pull leaves and make him a “tea!” And every time, he got well in a few minutes! The Haitians have a proverb… it says, “What you don’t know, is greater than you!” Well, looking at this big pot of “greens” I was dying to eat, I realized it was true… “What we don’t know, is greater than us!”
