“Running with the Footmen…”
My precious mother, who has gone to be with the Lord, used to quote this verse to me and to anyone else going through a trial. When you are being tested, you feel alone. You feel as though no one understands what you are going through, and sometimes, you get the feeling of being abandoned, even by the Lord.
Jeremiah was the Lord’s prophet… to the children of Israel… The Lord was warning them that if they could not stand when small trials came, they would never be able to go through the big ones…
When I would complain about any small trial, my mother would say, “If thou hast run with the footmen (soldiers on foot), and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? (soldiers on horses) And if, in the day of peace, wherein thou trustiest, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?” Jer. 12:5
It means that if you cannot stand during the “small battle,” then how will you stand when the big one comes? That small battle you face is making you strong and making you depend on the real “Captain, Jesus!” It is all part of God’s plan to make you “tough!” And, the Lord has confidence in you, and He will pull you through!
So, start praising the Lord through this trial… He has never left you, never will! Sherry
