It was Well Worth the Trip!!

Years ago, we had made trips up the mountain of Haiti to one of the farthest areas, one of the most difficult trips, and one of the most remote Haitian villages we had ever worked in… a village called “Covant.” To get there we had to have “four-wheel drives,” traveling for miles “far up the mountain,” in the heat of the sun, up through the rocky river bed, for hours! We had to take our food, medicines, camping tents, etc., with us, enough for a week!

When our four-wheel drives could not make it any further, “mules were waiting for us!” These mules were not the friendliest creatures in Haiti because many times they tried to buck and kick us off! The whole trip up was long because there were not enough mules for everyone, so we would ride a short distance and get off or, “fall off” our mule, so someone else could ride!

We conducted a Mobile Clinic that week and on one day, encountered a poor Haitian lady with 8 children, no husband, and a very young child with “double club feet!” We brought that tiny, little guy, about three years old, back with us, down the treacherous mountains! At that time, the U.S. military was in Haiti. We found some military surgeons willing to do his “club feet surgery.”

After many surgeries, a lot of pain, and much prayer, Dieuferly began to walk! He was raised in our Orphanage. Today, he does camerawork for us, photography, and much more! In addition, he has his own business in Haiti, and “God’s blessings are upon his life!” He is humble, loves God, and loves the poor! He is a great asset to us, and no problem is too big for him! That “long trip up the mountain,” by four-wheel drive, by mule, and by foot, was well worth the trip!
