From Sitting to Running!

You may remember Nelson, the little guy we found in the village of “Old Letant,” sitting on the ground, alongside a hog. I had seen this little guy before, not knowing how old he was. I didn’t think he could walk because his mother always “picked him up by one arm and sat him on the ground, naked, in the hot sun!” He was always “sitting on his knees,” with no water, for hours. The other children would come by and smack him on the head and call him, “pa bezouin” (I don’t need you).

One day, as we were there in the village doing a feeding program, I just went over and stooped down and picked him up. He wrapped his arms around my neck and laid his head on my shoulder. He knew he “had been rescued!” His parents let us take him back to our Love A Child children’s home and from there we began to try to get him to stand. He would scream and cry and fall down. But one day, we stood him up beside a tricycle, and put his hands on the seat! That did it! He found out he could stand and even move “back and forth!” He began standing, walking, and running!

Today, he is ten and he is always doing “flips in the air, hand-stands, summer-salts,” and running like a track star! He is amazing! Nelson is “very intelligent,” and does well in school. He “loves” soccer and is a natural! He loves church, serving the Lord, and just being a “normal boy!” The Bible says, “He lifteth up the poor, out of the dust, and liftieth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory.” I Samuel 2:8
