A Grandmother’s Love…

Madamn Ovana had just finished part of “a hard day’s work” and sat down to rest. She, like so many Haitian elderly, helps care for their grandchildren while their mothers try to find a way a make money for food.

Living in a “stick house,” with mud to fill the cracks, has been all she has ever known. When it rains, she and her grandbaby get soaked. She lays little Wetson on a straw mat on the floor. There is no money for diapers or for food.

Since she cannot walk very well, she uses the stick cane that someone gave her. When she has to leave to find sticks for charcoal, she leaves her grandson with a neighbor.

Grandma Ovana needs medical care, but she, like so many poor Haitians, does not have enough money for a “moto” to get to a clinic… and besides, there are gangs on the road. She said she “feels she has lost her most important thing, as do thousands of other Haitians… her “hope.” There is a Creole Proverb that says, “Hope makes us Live…” She, too, is praying that the Lord will send help to Haiti to get rid of the gangs.

We believe the Lord will answer her prayer!

Please, keep the poor in Haiti in your prayers.

Thank you,
Sherry
