Sarah…
I can tell you from experience, raising children here in Haiti, that we see some of the problems that you have with your teenagers. Our kids do not “talk back,” and they are never disrespectful. The majority are just great kids, but there are many “teenagers!”
This is a picture of Sarah from when we got her. Her mother had died, leaving her and her brother, Joseph, in a bad situation. Their father was in the mountains and had nothing, so we took both children in. When Sarah turned into a teen, she gained weight. I always taught our girls to “dress modest,” even when going to a soccer game, but so many times I have caught Sarah, who is a size 12, in one of her sister’s size 4 skirts! That happened one too many times for me, so I sent her back to live with her father who had now moved to Port-au-Prince. We still paid for her school and sent money for food, but I had to distance her for a while.
She recently came to visit and has made some big changes. She is sweet, humble, kind, studious, good in school, and has even lost weight. She is so sweet and misses her family! We love Sarah!!! She wants to be a dentist. She is very intelligent and can be whatever she wants to be!!! It’s not the “falling down” that gets one into trouble, it’s the “not getting back up.” We all sin, we all mess up, and we all make mistakes. Jesus said, “Go and sin no more.” It takes “tough love” to run an orphanage or a children’s home in Haiti. Sherry
