Imagine being a poor mother in Haiti, right, with five or six children to feed. The price of tap-tap (local transportation) has risen, there are no jobs, gangs control the major intersections and cities of Haiti, police are being killed, mothers cannot get to the market to sell their small amount of crops… and, their children are hungry. They have been praying each night for food the next day. And all of a sudden, they hear the sound of our food trucks rumbling down the streets. Food is coming! “Merci, Bon Dieu!” Thank you, God!
They run and get in line with their precious Food Card. One by one they come and pick up their heavy box of “Tipanou,” or Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) rice. The box is heavy but their happy hearts don’t mind carrying that big box of food. They will go home and begin to cook it for their children with a thankful heart.
This is just one of the many villages we feed each month with the food from FMSC. Our partners, sponsor each container of food to come from Minnesota all the way to Miami; from there the big container is put on a ship and sent to Haiti… When it arrives in Port, the “hard part” begins… getting it released from Customs. Then, it has to travel through “gang-controlled areas.” If it is not safe, the driver has to wait until it is safe… Then, it is unloaded by forklift and stored in our Food Distribution Center, waiting to be sent to hungry people and their families.
This all happens because of “you!” Your gifts, large and small, and widow’s mite continue to help us feed the poor in Haiti, and God “has your number!” He does not forget! Blessings are coming!
