Betina Paul

Little “Betina Paul” is just one of the many poor children from the mountains of Haiti caught in the middle of all the crises going on in Haiti. She lives far far into the mountains, and she is 12 years old… Betina has never been to school, and cannot read or write her own name.

She has two sisters and four brothers. She works “all day long,” looking and searching for pieces of wood to sell, so her mother can buy food for the whole family. This “food” might only be a can of corn, but that is what she and her siblings will have for the entire day.

Betina has been able to buy a little vegetable that she will take home to her mother… the soil in Haiti is very poor, and there is little or no rainfall…the ground is rough and rocky.

She, like so many other little Haitian children, will learn to “make the best of things,” to smile when she is hungry and to even laugh when she feels like crying. Her mother tells her and her siblings to “sleep on their stomach” each night as a mother gives the children “salt water to drink,” or “salt to put under their tongue,” to replace food… but, Betina is one of the lucky ones… she is still alive, amid hunger, cholera, and the many problems of Haiti. Please remember the little children of Haiti in your prayers…

Thank you, and God bless you.
