Big Samuel

This is one of our older boys, Samuel Orel. He was born in the mountains of Greffin, Haiti! His mother died giving birth to Samuel and his father could not keep him. (It is hard to find another mother to nurse a baby because most mothers are already nursing their own baby.)

When he was brought out of the mountains to our orphanage, he was suffering from malnutrition and cried all the time! He is now 17 and will graduate this summer. He is a good worker and also helps on the “painting team!” When he finishes school he wants to be an electrician. He loves soccer and playing the drums in church!

Note: the Beard… this is a big fad in Haiti… “Beards!” We must have to look “past the beard” and into the heart! Haitian kids are hard-working, intelligent, and know how to “make a little money.” They will save “every gourde, or penny.” They are “amazing people!”
