Brand-New Reading Glasses

Years ago, when we were traveling far into the mountains of Haiti, we had to make a brief stop for some of the ladies to “find some bushes!” I wandered around the small village, and I saw an old man under a tree with some “handmade glasses.” He had cut the bottoms of Coca-Cola bottles out and wired them together. He had his Creole Bible very close to his “Coca-Cola glasses.”

That one scene has always touched my heart. In fact, it made me cry. We take so many things for granted… A pair of reading glasses can open a world to a young student studying by candlelight or an old man trying to read his Bible. We recently received “brand-new reading glasses” from MAP International and International Aid. We have used them in our Mobile Medical Clinics, and we also give lots of them to our missionary friends who come for food each month (when it is safe for them to come).

These pictures are from our friend, Lori, at Real Hope for Haiti. What a blessing! There is nothing “small” in the Kingdom of God. The widow woman gave two mites, and her story is recorded in the Word of God. We wish to thank these wonderful organizations, as well as our other Love A Child friends who send smaller amounts of eyeglasses, etc. One pair of reading glasses may not mean much to you, but to each person who receives a new pair, it opens up a whole new world in a “very dark country” like Haiti. Thank you! We appreciate everything that is donated to the poor. Bobby and Sherry
