Brother and Sister

George has been driving carstrucks, front-end loaders, etc., almost anything with wheels, since he was a kid. We never knew he was learning how to drive! You could say he was good at driving us crazy. Ha!

I had heard the story of George’s mother and father when I used to go to Port-au-Prince to buy medicine for my Mobile Medical Clinics. A young lady in the pharmacy told me about a poor woman who had five children, was pregnant with another, and was going to “abandon the baby at the hospital” after she had given birth. She could not afford to feed another child. She was looking for an orphanage to take the baby once born, so I agreed.

But, before the poor mother could make it to the hospital, “Hurricane Georges” hit Haiti. The baby was born in their shack in the area of Cite Soleil. When I went to see her, she still did not want another child, so we tookGeorge” home with us. (We named him after the Hurricane.)

Now, George has received his diploma from Haytrac Caterpillar here in Haiti for operating heavy equipment, but he already knew how to handle “front-end loaders,” etc., before that! He now works for Love A Child full time.

His beautiful sister, Stephanie, came along a year after his mother had George. Their mother died when Stephanie was a baby, so we took her in. She is in college learning “administration” and works part-time in our office here at Love A Child. George loves his sister with all his heart!

In raising all of these children from the orphanage now “Children’s Home,” here in Haiti, we face many things parents face in the States. But, Haitian children are loving, kind, and obedient. They are respectful and hardworking. They are “one big family” and really love each other. Bobby and I never thought we would have an orphanage in Haiti, but it all happened, “just as God said it would!”
