You would think all this good food is for Sunday dinner at the orphanage… but actually, it is for a party celebration tonight for Jovanie! She has graduated from “Mid-Wives for Haiti” college in Leogane. Before this, she had four years of Nursing College in Leogane but when the class took their tests for their Nursing License, they were all “lost;” everyone’s tests!!

Jovanie was so discouraged because MSPP (the Health Department) would not be giving tests for two more years. I told her, “Don’t waste two years of your life, waiting to take the board exams that they lost! It wasn’t your fault, but go on to ‘Mid-Wives for Haiti’ and get your degree, and then, when they get ready to have the tests again, take them, and get your Nursing License.”

She can work at Love A Child and do her clinical at our Maternity Clinic and then when they give the Nursing Exam, take it, and she will have two degrees. Jovanie was not easy to raise, but her determination and “not afraid of anything” attitude will make her a great nurse!
