Acts 14:17 “… He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons.”
Can you tell the season is about to change where you live? It has been like an early “Fall” for the past few days, and everyone is glad to see the hot, humid days of summer giving way to the crisp days of fall. Gardeners know that it is time to think about transitioning from the summer garden to the fall and winter gardens. However, in Haiti, they don’t have to think about that because it is a “summer” garden all year ‘round.
We teach and demonstrate “sustainable” gardening methods in Haiti because they do not have any Lowe’s or agricultural supply stores to run to for things they need, like fertilizers, seeds, insecticides, soil additives, etc. Those things are called “inputs,” and in Haiti, they don’t have “inputs”, so the Haitian families have to learn to have successful family gardens without access to “inputs.” For instance, we teach how to make soil where there are only barren, rocky surfaces, fertilizers from organic materials, insecticides from the plants nearby, and, importantly, about saving seeds from your “first fruits” for the next planting.
Haiti is a very tough environment in almost every aspect, but when you learn to “farm God’s way,” you can have good, reliable harvests. When you support our “Development for Sustainability” outreaches, you are helping Haitians learn how to help themselves, to provide food for a lifetime. Many generations of hungry families thank you for your support.
