Mark Crea and his team from Feed My Starving Children were there the day we brought Jean Edwouard out of Old Letant. Mark took this picture of me explaining to Jean Edwouard that he was going to come and live with us. I remember talking to him yesterday when I took his picture, and I asked him, “Jean Edwouard, what did you think when we put you in the truck to take you away? Were you afraid?” (I had asked him that because one of our older girls, Julianne, told me that when we took them out of the village, she thought that “the white people were going to eat her!”) Jean Edwouard replied, “No, I wasn’t afraid. I just remember thinking that I’ll never be hungry again because I was always hungry.” Jean Edwouard is taller than me, but I reached up and hugged his neck with tears in my eyes.
