Children are suffering in the drought: 7-22-18 3:50 PM

Our Haitian workers found these three children in a poor area called Mon Deral. The little girl (left) with no shirt, was trying to cook food for her brothers, in a chodyé (pot), in a deep hole. The children were dirty, because of the drought and they had very little water for anything. They had skin issues, and they were hungry. Sometimes, they just put “leaves and a little water with salt” and drink “saltwater soup.” The drought in Haiti has made everything dry, the ground is cracked, and the crops have burned. Animals are dying, and kids are “just trying to stay alive.” The worst thing is that they have no food… Our workers had carried food with them, and we are going to try to get food to this village each month, by faith. The grandma was so thankful for the food!

When I looked at these children, I knew why Jesus told the story of the “rich man and the beggar, Lazarus.” (Luke 16:19-31) He told how the rich man ate “sumptuously every day.” (He ate like a pig at each meal!) Lazarus was a beggar, full of sores who hung around the rich man’s gate and only wanted the “crumbs” that fell from the rich man’s table. However, that big, gluttonous, disgusting, rich man, who did nothing but eat, never would even give up his “crumbs,” let alone a plate of food. Then Jesus said, “The beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom to Heaven.” The “rich man also died and was buried,” and in Hell, he lifted up his eyes, in torment, and begged for Lazarus to come and just “dip the tip of his finger in cold water” to cool the tongue of the rich man in Hellfire. However, it was “too late.”

When we hear the cry of the poor or when we see the cry of the poor, we cannot put off helping them. That neighbor of yours might be dead before you decide to help him. “Now” is the time to help the poor and obey the voice of the Lord. God bless you! Sherry
