There is a Haitian Creole Proverb that says, “Haitians laugh when they should be crying.” It seems that no matter how bad things are, the Haitian men, women and children always try to smile or laugh. These children are from the poor area of Mòn Deral. They really do not have anything to smile about as they sleep on mud floors, have no electricity, no bed to sleep on, little water, and usually only eat a handful of food a day. In fact, they’ve probably never had a “new, store-bought dress or shirt” in their lives. Our kids cry if they don’t get the latest “Nintendo games, X-Box, or the best iPhones.” What a world of difference, when you really know “the cry of the poor.“ Sherry
