Colin’s first picture really shows the fear and torment on his face. He was born into a large family. His father was deeply involved in Voodoo and was very “mean!” When Colin’s mother cooked food, it was a large pot of rice! All Haitian children love rice that sticks to the sides and bottom of the pot! So, after each child had gotten a handful of rice, Colin reached in and got some of the rice that stuck to the pan! His father saw him, yelled at him, grabbed Colin’s hand, and held it down in the hot coals of the fire! Colin was screaming… his hand was burned very badly! When we found out about this, we took him to our clinic and then called the Department of Social Services. His father never went to jail, but Colin did not have to go back to his father!

Colin is now in 9th grade. He wants to be an engineer someday! He is “very intelligent,” and hardworking! His hand has healed very well! Even though he came from a horrible family, deep in Voodoo, his life has changed! Thank you, partners, for saving another child!
