“Cultural Day” in Haiti…

“Cultural Day” in Haiti…

The Haitians love to share their thoughts and dreams with their children. Once a year, on May 1st, they have a “Cultural Day” here in Haiti, at “Gwo Mache Mirak” (Big Miracle Market), here in Fond Parisien.

They LOVE to dress up with their bright red and blue colors to share their heritage… so a colorful blue dress, with red, white, and blue, does the trick! They “take us back” to their heritage of working the fields and “singing” as they worked! And, of course, the straw hat, to keep the hot Haitian sun off their faces and their body so that they can do their work in the fields!

So many Haitians here in this area turned out for the big event at Miracle Market! There were costumes, dancing, and singing!!! Everyone laughed, told stories, and danced!! We got to taste many types of food and drinks.

Haitian people work “very hard” each day. But when it comes time to relax, dance, and sing, they do it with “all their heart,” and “with all their heritage!”

Sherry and I have been working here in Haiti, going back and forth for many years, and then living here for 35 years! We “love” the Haitian people and their children!
