You may have heard his story, and we just wish there were more young men in the world like Georges. Many years ago, when I was buying medicine downtown in Port-au-Prince, the lady behind the counter in the drugstore told me a story. A poor mother had told the lady behind the counter that she was pregnant and could not afford another child. She was going to deliver the baby and leave it!
When the lady in the drugstore heard about this, she asked me to meet the mother and agree to take the baby. That baby came during “Hurricane Georges,” so we met the mother, took the baby, and named him “Georges!” He has been driving “anything with wheels” since he was 12… but we didn’t know it! Today, Georges is one of our “very best container drivers,” and if you knew how crazy, complicated, and dangerous it is to drive in Haiti and cross the Dominican Republic border, you would understand what a great driver this young man is! Georges is sweet, kind, and humble! We love you, Georges!
