This is Dasimene. This poor little Haitian girl has never known anything but work, filth and hunger. She has never had a doll or hair ribbons, and she has never gone to school. There has never been anything to make her laugh. She has only known a world of “hunger and hard work.” She is one of the children from Sa-pa-te, who make “mud cookies” to sell for thousands of Haitian children to eat when they are hungry.
