Distributing food in the Bateyes: 11-23-18 3:15 PM

Wow! We just got back from handing out food in the “Bateyes,” which are the sugarcane camps in the Dominican Republic. We had such a wonderful time with the Haitians and the Dominicans who live there. These poor people are literally working as slaves. It is so sad. What really touched me is when you are driving down the highway in the Dominican Republic, you look out and see all the sugarcane fields for miles and miles. I thought to myself “There is no way anyone lives out there, you do not see any houses. It’s all sugarcane!” As we drove in, I really could not believe my eyes. It was a whole village back there with hundreds and hundreds of people living in these small, green sheds. I then found out that the houses are painted green “So nobody can see them.” In other words, the landowner who works them does not want people to know they are working like slaves! They were so happy today to be receiving food, candy, soccer balls and most importantly the love of Jesus! God bless you! Kaeli, Bobby and Sherry
