Dominican Republic and Dimelia

Dominican Republic and Dimelia

We are still waiting and praying that we can get the authorization to fly into Haiti asap. We thought we would have this permission earlier, but in Haiti, things move slowly. We pray that we can get permission Monday and fly in Tuesday, Lord willing (We heard today the high official who signs the permission papers has been sick). We know that coronavirus is beginning to spread rapidly, and the problem is that, for the majority of the Haitian poor, they do not have access to medical care, or, they cannot afford it.

We not only have Haiti on our hearts but also our friends in the Dominican Republic. We have had large crusades there, and in the most recent years, have really had a burden on our hearts for the Haitians who live in the “bateyes.” We have been working closely with David and Angie George, in many different outreaches in the Dominican Republic. Right now, the border between the DR and Haiti is closed. We have a young Haitian daughter, Dimelia, who is staying with a Dominican family. She has been treated with “shots” to help her scarring tissue she received when she was badly burned at the age of about three. She has received three of the four shots she needs but because things have “closed down,” she is still waiting for the last shot and for the border to open.

Serving the poor, and working for the Lord, is not always easy. We all have roadblocks but we do the best we can and trust the Lord. If you are reading this, we humbly ask that you pray with us that we can return to Haiti, to be with the Haitian children and those we work with, to make sure they are taking precautions and that the border will soon open between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Many poor Haitians who buy, sell, and make a meager living, are struggling each day to just provide “one meal” for their family, and right now, even that “one meal” is becoming more difficult every day. Thank you, friends and partners, for your love and prayers.
