The first time I saw Dumolia (Dimelia), she was about six or seven, and her father had brought her down from the mountains. When she was younger (maybe two or three), her mother had just boiled lots of water and put it into a large, round metal tub. She was getting ready to wash clothes. She left the room just a moment when little Dumolia leaned over or maybe pulled the metal tub over onto her neck, chest, and under her arms. It scalded her! She was in bad shape when her father brought her to us! She could not “turn her scarred neck from left to right,” nor could she raise her arms above her head. We sent her to a burn center in the U S, where she began the long “struggle with skin grafts!” She learned English through all those years of skin grafts and being in a hospital. She studied English and made it to 12th grade, and then she was sent home to Haiti. We found an English-speaking school for her for 12th grade, and she graduated. About two years ago, we sent her to a college in Jamaica, which is English-speaking! She has completed two years and has two more. She is taking “Business Education!” She is a devout Christian, and we pray that God gives her a wonderful husband! She is a “doll!” We are so proud of her!!!
