Even When He’s In Trouble, He’s Sweet!

About 15 years ago, Bobby and I got a phone call from our Haitian Director, Nelio Barthelemy. He said that we would need to take in another baby. Most of our children have come to us due to the fact that their mothers died during childbirth or immediately after. So I asked him, “Where is his mother?”

We were told that a pregnant mother passed through a village called “Bidonville,” when all of a sudden, she had to give birth…in a strange village. She already had too many children. She went to a Haitian outhouse, sat down, gave birth, and the baby fell in! She knew he wouldn’t last long in a Haitian outhouse!

When she left, an older man heard the cry, so he tied a rope around his waist and went “down” into the hole with a bucket. When he brought the bucket up, there was a baby, gasping for breath, covered with everything you could think of! The baby was sent to a hospital, and after a week, we got a phone call. They wanted us to pick up this baby.

He was so tiny and looked like a little scrawny mouse, but we felt that God had protected him and caused him to come to us! We called him Moses! Today, Moses is 15 years old and in the 8th grade. Believe it or not, he loves to sing! He also loves soccer, of course. He always helps the room mothers mop and sweep. The kids say, “Even when he’s in trouble, he’s sweet!”

We all love Moses! He is extremely intelligent! There’s no telling what he will do!
