For those of us who have raised our children here in the States, we somehow manage to get them into a “free lunch” program, or they can bring a “sack lunch.” In Haiti, poor families struggle to buy a school uniform for their child, where it is required that all children wear a uniform. They must also have shoes (usually black) with their uniforms. For many poor families, this means that the parents do not have money for lunch. We have often seen the “machans,” or the ladies who sell products, selling candy at school. This is because there are no “free lunch” programs provided in Haiti.

In our Love A Child school, we feed the children each day a nutritious meal. Many of our children come from far; some even come from the mountains. By noon, they are lethargic, and they cannot think or do well because they are hungry. I know that in the States, many schools have started already. But in Haiti, schools don’t start until the last part of September or the beginning of October. (The government sets these dates.)

Feeding Haiti’s hungry children in school is the best way to “give them nutritious food,” so that they can do well in school. These little children are the “future of Haiti.” May God richly bless all our partners who help us feed the children of Haiti.
