First Fruits

Many times, in the Bible we read about “harvest.” It is an important and popular topic throughout the books of the Bible. In Deuteronomy, it tells us “When you are harvesting,… leave some for the fatherless and widows.”

Recently Sherry asked our agricultural team to plant extra vegetable gardens for the Children’s Home to have plenty of fresh, nutritious vegetables for the tables, and especially for Jackson to have for his special dietary needs because of his kidney problems. This week Wilner and his team began the “extra harvests” from the new planting and proudly brought the “first fruits” to the Children’s Home kitchen.

Here you see the fresh harvest that the guys brought, of freshly harvested spinach, parsley, leeks, and different varieties of bananas. The broccoli, cabbage, and eggplants will soon be ready, too. As the old saying goes, because we taught these men to garden, they will not just eat for one day but will be providing delicious, nutritious food reliably now for many generations to come. Thank you to all who help support our Development for Sustainability projects.
