Food Crisis in Haiti

The internet here at our Love A Child compound in Haiti has barely been working for the past week. Bobby and Sherry are really busy, and they have asked me to give an update here from the country of Haiti.

Food is a crisis in Haiti! The devaluation of the Haitian gourdes is creating an economic disaster. The conversion rate right now is 91 gourdes to a U.S. dollar. Just five years ago, it was 60 gourdes to a U.S. dollar. The unemployment rate is currently at 85%, and the people that do have a job, make very little money in order to support their families. The staple diet in Haiti is rice and beans, and the people cannot even afford them right now. They can’t continue to live like this.

Tomorrow morning, we are sending a Haitian crew to do a food distribution in the garbage dump of Truttier. These precious people call us every day begging for food. We haven’t been able to send food there in three months because of the violence in that part of the country. But by faith, we are going to do our best to get food to them tomorrow. Please pray for the safety of our Haitian workers, and for the starving children in the garbage dump!

Thank you, partners! Rachael Abrams – Love A Child TV crew member in Haiti

P.S. We recently were able to move the Tisson family out of the garbage dump, and they are doing great in their new home in Miracle Village. This precious family would not be where they are today without partners like you. Thank you and God bless you!
