From Soil to Table: How Love A Child Feeds the Future

“And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.” Ecclesiastes 3:13

Every harvest is a joyous occasion at Love A Child when Wilner and the Agricultural Training Center (ATC) staff “reap the fruits of their labor” and deliver fresh, home-grown food to the kitchens that feed the children and staff.

Here, you see a wide variety of nutritious produce and fruits delivered to the Children’s Home kitchen. The men are proud of their work and are happy to be able to provide so much from starting with so little. Here, you also see new garden areas being prepared, removing the dry rocks, and supplementing the fragile Haitian soil with additives that they make themselves from composting chicken manure (in large sacks) and other green plant matter.

Once the ground is prepared and improved by the compost, seeds or young started plants are planted and nurtured, waiting for the eventual harvest. We give huge thanks to Hope Seeds International for their critical donations of the best seeds and also to Joe Perkins and Ron Lusk at Sustainable Food Development, who started us with the first necessary shade houses where we can grow the tender baby plants. We could not have our bountiful agricultural projects without both Hope Seeds and Sustainable Food Development’s help and support.

When you send your support for our Sustainability Projects you are helping Haitians learn to support themselves, giving “food for life.” Together, we ARE making a difference.

Thank you.
