Update: No fuel yet at Love A Child. Very few gallons left.
School in Haiti was supposed to start September 5th, but due to fuel shortage, gang activity, and insecurity, the Government says October 3rd, possibly. But we really have our doubts about that. All our college kids, high school, Jr High, and elementary Love A Child children are anxiously waiting for school to start!!
The main mode of transportation for Haitians is “tap tap” (a pick-up truck with seats in the back) and motorcycle. Now, the Haitian people will have a difficult time trying to get to markets to buy and sell. Limited fuel is shutting down Haiti.
Imagine if all the gas stations in the States were shut down. This is where we are heading… there are a few scattered far from us, but no fuel is coming into Haiti so far. If some fuel has come into the country, most is on the black market.
Love A Child compound has to pump 35,000 gallons of water up the water tower three times a day, and without fuel, we cannot do that.
The “insecurity” of Haiti makes the fuel crisis even more severe. We are praying and trusting the Lord for a miracle for the fuel to come… and, more than ever, we are trusting the Lord for “solar systems,” for all the buildings here. The Lord has “never failed us yet,” and He will never will!!! We will keep you informed, and thank you for your prayers.
Note: Without diesel, we cannot deliver our Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) meals to the many villages and people who are desperate for food. We cannot pick up our containers of FMSC meals in customs without fuel. The result is $70 per day per container just sitting there.
We just had to pay $23,000 in late fees, with more being owed now. Never in all of our years in Haiti have we seen the Haitians so desperate for food.
