God is Good… The Rest of the Story

I may have posted a story about Dieubon a short time ago but I wanted everyone to know “the rest of the story.”

We discovered Dieubon when he was about five years old. He had a double clubfoot. We had been doing a Mobile Medical Clinic when his mother brought him to us. Both of his feet were so bad and there wasn’t a doctor or hospital to perform the surgery for clubfoot in Haiti at the time.

Our friends, Doctor Chester Falterman and his wife, Debbie, agreed to find a hospital, a doctor, and to care for Dieubon, offering to keep Dieubon for the long length of time it would take!

They were wonderful, kind, loving hosts, parents, and devout Christians. They took care of Dieubon for more than a year. Later, he would also have to have surgery for Spina Bifida. After a while, Dieubon came home to us. He grew into a fine, sweet, and very funny young man! He is now in high school but also paints for us. He gets up at 4:00 a.m. and cleans his room, takes a walk, and goes to work at 6:30 a.m. He loves to work.

With his little salary, he helps take care of his mother who has five children! Dieubon is very short for his age, but everyone loves him so much! He’s like a little black “SpongeBob.” (All our kids have nicknames for each other! It’s a Haitian thing!) Everyone loves Dieubon! When you give him a job, you never have to think about it, it’s done, correctly. We believe that “we” don’t choose the children who come to live in our home and in our life, God does!

We love you, Dieubon! By the way, Dieubon means “God is good!”

P.S. Doc Chester Falterman went on to be with Jesus two years ago in July. His one great act of kindness, along with Debbie, has forever changed a life.

We miss you, Doc!
